On Trend for 2021

From what we learned through the chaos of the last year to elements we realized we just could not do without, the design trends of 2021 we inspired by our lives.

The minimalist approach to decorating is still here. From colorful accents added throughout the décor for vibrancy to choosing pieces that have significant meaning to you and your family, more homes are focusing on the idea of clean yet cozy spaces. Even a mixture of contrasting patterns paired with common earth tones create a more eclectic style that pulls a scheme together while adding a hint of personal flavor. Another popular trend is mixing scale, like large wall décor pieces with small-scale decorative details to provide depth and layers to a space. Functionality is a huge factor when it comes to designing and decorating one’s home, especially now. People are repurposing more formal spaces, such as dining rooms, into workspaces for schoolwork and jobs that are now being done from home. Additionally, multi-purpose furniture pieces allow for the easy transformation of a space have also become exceedingly popular as families are spending more time in their homes.

Away with the shiplap and in with the patterns! The incorporation of bold colors, wall coverings and even murals are going to be an essential component of homes that are staying on par with this year’s trends. Bolder and warmer colors, such as cheeky blues, deep greens, and sultry wood tones, are making a comeback throughout the home, even the kitchen! Wall coverings in lively patterns and textures or beautifully painted scenes will really bring a tired space to life and give a feeling of texture and depth. Not ready to fully commit to the wallpaper just yet? Try using wallpaper in small and unique ways such as the backing of furniture or lining of shelves to add a hint of dimension the space. Another good option is to stick with a more neutral color scheme but add in a couple décor items, like a lamp or other knick-knacks, in a primary color or two, helping create some liveliness.

Choosing a particular style to incorporate throughout your home can be difficult and seem like quite a commitment. Luckily, for those of us who are a little indecisive, 2021 is continuing the with the trend of integrating vintage elements and as well as ushering in the granny chic

style. Antique, upcycled, repurposed, and vintage pieces in combination with strong colors and patterns, velvet or crocheted fabrics, and brass classic-looking finishes creates the uniquely cohesive aesthetic with a touch of whimsical flair that is the granny chic or grandmillennial style. If decorating your home like your grandma’s house isn’t up your alley, picking natural elements such as wicker and rattan pieces is also on trend. These types of furniture and décor help create a more organic look while producing a calming vibe. You can even add in a few luxe items to help modernize the space while remaining warm and cozy. Whatever pieces you pick, make sure they show your individual style - that means the matching furniture sets are on their way out to make room for personalization.

Last, but certainly not least, house plants are here to stay. Plants bring in pops of beauty and

color, in addition to providing many benefits such as purifying the air and improving your

mood. Artificial plants are still great for aesthetics, but the real thing is what is truly trending, in fact, they have never been more popular. With so many options out available, there is certainly a plant out there for you (even those brown-thumbed people!).

We made it out of 2020 and are finally starting to see our society return to [a new] normal! Feeling refreshed and renewed starts at home, so start by bringing your home into this year with any (or all!) of these ideas. With the transitional yet timeless, bold yet cozy atmosphere they are sure to create, your home will surely be trending for quite some time.
